Delayed success and frustration




To solve for time, use the formula for time, t = d/s which means time equals distance divided by speed. The maximum speed at which anybody can travel is probably speed of light and that too in vacuum.

I have a process before going to bed. I need to have a bath, drink some warm water, have some dinner, watch some TV…. The target for all this is so that I have a peaceful sleep, I feel completely rested and the next day I’m ready for my work, with all the energy. Today my call stretched till late. Knowing the list of tasks in my process I tried to hurry. The soap fell into the sink, I almost slipped on the wet floor, the water got boiled a bit too much… every moment was loading onto my frustration. Could I speed up something? Could I probably cut down some tasks off my process? If my goal is to have a peaceful sleep, feel rested etc I can’t reach there by cutting down the tasks. All the tasks had their own due duration. I realized that only way to handle the situation is give due respect to the duration I owed each task. There was no way out! This made the process of going through the tasks less stressful.

As I sat for a calm me time, it occurred to me that this is what the shloka कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन । मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भुर्मा ते संगोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ॥ was hinting at. When we set a goal in life, that is like the goal that I had at end of day, have a peaceful sleep. The work we do towards that goal are the tasks like taking bath, having warm water… If we are sure of the tasks, if we know the due duration to be given to each task that should be it. From there on the time taken for us to reach goal depend on several factors. We aren’t in vacuum. The resistance we face will depend on the environment, our characteristics (for the sake of very scientific readers let us consider our characteristics of the life from birth that we know only.). our family history etc. So the time taken will depend on the distance of the goal set by the speed at which we are travelling. The speed has been optimized, the mode of travel has been optimized, the resistance is understood. This is the moment then to let go and stop thinking any further.

If we still feel that things are happening very slow it might help to change the goals to something that seems achievable in near future. So, if I can’t really speed up the tasks and goto bed early, any which ways I’m getting delayed, why not write something that has come to my mind? That makes me happy and peaceful too. That’s the reason for this writing.
